Traditional theft detection is provided by an electromagnetic strip sensed by equipment positioned at the entrances and exits of libraries—similarly used in retail stores to keep folks from walking off with merchandise. The tags or strips are purely for theft detection; they do not convey information about the materials. Virtually all tags and strips used in libraries can be limitlessly activated and de-activated so that materials can be protected through multiple circulations. Strips may be library- or Brodart-supplied and applied by Brodart.
Application:
- Automatic application: strips and tags are placed between randomly selected pages.
- Manual application: upon request, Brodart can insert theft detection devices in the spine of a book. Manual application incurs a premium charge.
3M®:
- Tattle-Tape security strips offer easy and discreet protection for all your library materials, including magnetic media (cassettes, CDs, and DVDs).
- Strips cannot be shielded by briefcases, backpacks, the human body, or other common objects.
- 3M's archival-quality adhesive will not degrade library materials.
- Signal does not fade over time, so materials are protected for as long as you own them.
- Strips can be activated and deactivated repeatedly, yet still retain their original effectiveness.
Checkpoint®:
Traditional electromagnetic (EM) anti-theft strips and tags:
- Set off an alarm when activated and passed through sensors.
- Can be hidden in books and audio-visual materials.
- Can be activated and deactivated repeatedly while retaining the original effectiveness.
RFID Tags:
- RF Security Tag technology is paper-thin and available in several sizes.
- Security component is invisible to patrons.
