MARC Record Services
Brodart exchanges information with libraries in many, many ways. Some are remarkably simple. These can be as rudimentary as emails or standard-format files shipped to you on a disk or CD. But others have content and format that is very specialized to suit a specific library's needs. Plus, sophisticated integrations with local library systems are also common. The significant question (in the broadest sense) is the customization of the files passed back and forth between your library and Brodart and the method of transferring them.

MARC Record Format & Content

Most Brodart customers receive MARC records with their materials, customized for use in their libraries. What's more, many require specific record formats as well so their ILS systems function seamlessly with Brodarts systems. Brodart transfers fund, cataloging and distribution information in the MARC records it provides. Custom formats that consist of a Bibliographic record with order quantities, funds, and branch/location information include but are not limited to:

 | | Dynix’s Horizon |
 | Dynix’s Classic |
 | | III Millennium |
 | III Classic |
 | | SIRSI Unicorn |
 | SIRSI DRA (without order details) |
 | | TLC's Online Selection Assistant |
 | TLC's CARL Solution |
 | | GIS' Polaris |
 | |

Methods of Transfer

Immediate Download - All Brodart websites allow the immediate download of brief selection records to act as on-order records, rull MARC cataloging records (when available), or a Combination of the two when MARC cataloging records are not available.

FTP - FTP services are foreign to some libraries. The acronym implies technical sophistication to many and so is intimidating to those who haven't used it. But FTP stands for nothing more than "File Transfer Protocol" and is simply about the process of moving a copy of a file from one computer to another.

EDI - EDI (Electronic Data Exchange) system creates a connection between your integrated automation system and ours. Our EDI system uses standard industry file formats for electronic ordering and order file acknowledgements. After your books are ready to ship, an electronic invoice can be used to update your library's integrated system.

Placing Orders

Some of the integrated interfaces require the submission of the order on BIBZ, while others require the release through established EDI interfaces. See your sales or customer service representative for details.
