Automatic Bestseller Maintenance
If having all of the books on the New York Times bestseller list is important to your library, why wait until they appear in the New York Times Book Review to order? Let McNaughton's Automatic Bestseller Maintenance program order for you.
Each Thursday, we receive from the New York Times information concerning what will be on the bestseller list a week from the following Sunday. We place orders for the bestsellers to be shipped so that, ordinarily, you will have the books in your library before your patrons see them on the list.
To maintain your bestseller supply, we divide the New York Times list into four parts [position 1 to 3, 4 to 6, 7 to 10 and How to & Misc. 1 to 4]. We do not ship a title automatically until it moves into position 10 or above. For that reason when setting up your profile, we have you outline your quantities for the top three position segments. When a title climbs to a position you have chosen on your profile, we automatically ship the number of copies you have specified. As it climbs up the list, additional copies are sent according to your profile. For example:
Sample Profile for Non-Fiction
 Position 1 to 3 results in a total of 5 copies
Position 4 to 6 results in a total of 3 copies
Position 7 to 10 results in only 1 copy
If and when the NYT List...
Hits position 10 we ship 1 copy
Hits position 6 we ship 2 additional copies (total of 3)
Hits position 3 we ship 2 additional copies (total of 5)
In this example we have shipped a total of 5 copies in accordance with the profile.
Larger libraries might want 25 copies of a top title; a smaller library might only want one copy when the book reaches the 10th position and no more. The standing order formula is set up as you want it, and can be changed any time your needs change.

Preselect Service
McNaughton can select titles for you based on a profile you create. Your profile can be as simple as 50% fiction and 50% nonfiction, or you can break the categories down into more specific percentages for mysteries, westerns, romances etc. If you prefer, you can select a profile based on popular authors (nationally best-selling or regional favorites). The important thing is you design the profile making the choices, which best suit the needs of your patrons. Your selection profile can be modified at anytime during the life of your contract.
Once you have established a profile, we use our monthly selection lists to make choices for you each month. Orders are placed using our online service McNaughtonBooks.com. You can access the website and check the order history for any of the titles we have selected for you.
There is no additional fee added to your annual service cost for preselect service, however all books we select are in addition to any you may decide to select on your own, and they are charged against your regular monthly allowance of books or points.
