Filtering

In order to maintain the quality of your database, records can be checked against a variety of "minimum bibliographic standards." Brodart performs this analysis, based on a set of agreed-upon filtering programs that scan your records and flag those that need improvement. Each record is checked for certain criteria. If one or more critical elements of data are absent, the record is flagged as "below minimum standard."

Record criteria may include checks such as:

The presence of an 008 tag (control field) that is 40 characters in length

The presence of a 245 tag (title statement)

The presence of 26X fields (publisher and publication date)

The presence of 3XX fields (physical description) when required

"Case Form Check" to identify records in all capital letters (excludes 001, 006, 007, 008, 010, 020, 022 and $e or $2 in any record)

Reports & Custom Filters

If a record is flagged as "below standard," each reason for rejection is listed in a report. A file and/or listing of records not meeting filter conditions is generated so that your staff (or Brodart's Conversion Services) can upgrade your data. (Click here for conversion informaton.)

Additionally, you may design a custom filtering program based on your library's needs. Please contact us for additional information.
