Jackets
Brodart book jackets provide the best possible protection for book covers during circulation. All book jackets are made of 1.5-mil lo-luster polyester film for proven durability.
Paperbacks, trade paperbacks and trade books without dust covers are covered with Plastikleer® jackets without paper backing. Books with dust jackets are covered with jackets that include paper backing. Both types are available in thirty sizes to provide an exact fit for most books. To further extend the size range, these covers feature a convenient clear 1/8" edge along the top and bottom that allows off-sized jackets to "fit" without exposing the paper liner.
Attachment
Covers can be fitted "loose" on dust jackets, that is, not glued or taped. This covering makes for easy cover changes and is often sufficiently secure for normal circulation. Most libraries specify either gluing or taping covers to books. Brodart uses a permanent bond latex-based glue to affix covers. This glue should be considered "permanent," though it can be removed with some special solvents. Glue is applied to outer-most edge of dust jacket. Tape is a 3M product that is reinforced with nylon filament for extra durability.
Customizations
Some custom jacket handling is available. Our "standard" covering method extends the dust jacket beyond the edge of the Plastikleer® cover by 1/2" Optionally, we trim covers so that they are flush with the book's dust jacket or, if specified, the cover can extend beyond the dust jacket.
